“DIN bolt” or “ANSI screw” is not enough information for a purchase order. A buyer needs a short chain of evidence from the installation requirement to the part, the material and the inspection record. The examples below are written for procurement teams comparing metric and inch-based supply from China.
1. Separate the thread system from the standard name
State whether the assembly is metric or inch-based. Give nominal diameter, pitch or threads per inch, length and whether the part is fully or partially threaded. A DIN 933 / ISO 4017 fully threaded bolt is not the same callout as a DIN 931 / ISO 4014 partial-thread bolt, even when both are described as hex bolts.
2. Use an equivalent only after checking the dimensions
DIN, ISO and GB references may describe closely related dimensions, but “equivalent” should be confirmed against the applicable drawing or standard table. For a GB/T 5782 request, compare the head dimensions, thread length, tolerance, grade and finish before accepting an ISO 4014 or DIN 931 reference. 3. Match nut, washer and bolt as one assembly
Do not select a high-strength bolt and then add an unverified nut. State the bolt grade, compatible nut class, washer standard and coating as one line. For vibration-prone joints, review the nylon-insert lock nut information and confirm temperature, torque and reuse requirements.
4. Define material without overclaiming
For carbon or alloy steel, state the required property class or grade. For stainless fasteners, identify the verified material family and strength designation, such as A2-70 or A4-80. A label such as “18-8” is a starting description, not a complete engineering specification. Ask which standard, test record or material document supports the supplied grade.
5. Treat finish as a service decision
Specify plain, zinc-plated, hot-dip galvanized or black oxide only after considering the environment and thread allowance. For outdoor or chloride exposure, ask what coating scope and inspection record are available. Avoid unsupported salt-spray life or corrosion-duration claims.
6. Ask for documents that can be checked
List the required dimensional report, material certificate, coating record, batch traceability, inspection plan and packaging marks before approval. A document request should match the actual order. Do not present a certificate, audit or customer approval as available until the supplier has confirmed it for the specific shipment.
7. Connect the specification to supply logistics
